IFSP-Wanni formulates 8 main identified outputs/results:
1. Conflicting parties Government of Sri Lanka and LTTE are integrated in all project measures
2. Target group has organised itself into functioning self-help groups, is trained and its self-responsible organisational structure is strengthened
3. Target group uses the agro-potential, the small farmers implement agricultural production with their own means and produce marketable surpluses
4. Rural infrastructure in the 50 project villages of Vavuniya North and Vavuniya Divisions is improved and access to the households and to the markets secured
5. Non-agricultural employment and income possibilities are identified (trade and small business)
6. Drinking water availability and hygienic conditions are improved
7. Knowledge and awareness of the target group about nutrition, health and hygiene is improved
8. Peace and reconciliation process in the project area is supported by specific project measures


 

Result 1 by activities

 

The conflicting parties GOSL and LTTE are integrated in all Project measures:-

• Ongoing consultation and reporting to government and LTTE structures with submission of project information and quarterly reports
• Inclusion of government and LTTE representatives in monitoring and evaluation system
• Establishing of a „Progress Review Committee“ with representatives of District and Divisional Administrations, the LTTE, Wanni based NGO, and selected CBO
• Technical consultation and cooperation with government departments and offices and with LTTE structures and NGO
• Inclusion of representatives of government structures and of the LTTE in training programmes

Result 2 by activities

 
The target group has organized itself into functioning self-help groups, is trained and its self responsible organizational structure is strengthened:-

• Conducting awareness/information programmes in target villages
• Establish baseline data and problem analysis on village level

The target group uses the agro-potential; the small farmers implement agricultural production with their own means and produce marketable surpluses:-

• Distribution of agricultural inputs to operative CBO
• Promotion of milk production through distribution of cows
• Support of local veterinary service
• Promotion of goat farming
• Promotion of backyard poultry
• Promotion of home gardens
• Promotion of inland fish production
• Strengthening of Farmers Organisations and training in improved agricultural practices and marketing
• Exchange programs and trainings with farmers in South Vavuniya

Result 4 by activities

 

Rural infrastructure in the 50 project villages of Vavuniya North and Vavuniya Division is improved and access to the households and market secured:-

• Rehabilitation of the most important water tanks
• Renovation and construction of Agro-wells
• Rehabilitation of agricultural access roads
• Improving storage capacity of the Multi-Purpose-Cooperative-Society
• Renovation of MPCS purchasing and selling outlets
• Establishment of small-scale rice mills
• Construction of multi-purpose community buildings

Non-agricultural employment and income possibilities are identified (trade and small Business):-

• Identification and training of potential small entrepreneurs
• Mobilization and training of saving groups with development of book-keeping
• Conduct a market survey for local products

Result 8 by activities

 

The peace and reconciliation process in the project area is supported by specific project measures.

• Training measures for CBO leaders, village representatives and religious leaders in conflict management, conflict solution and co-existence
• Workshops on peace building and the Do No Harm concept for SLF staff and in the villages conducted by the SLF “Department for peace and Co-existence” with the participation of local religious leaders
• Exchange programme between Tamil and Sinhala farmers
• Cultural exchange programme between Sinhala and Tamil people
• Translation, printing and distribution of “Do No Harm“ handbook Sinhala and Tamil
• Support of a follow-upworkshop on “The role of Civil Society in Peace Building and Reconciliation”
• Reach agreement with GOSL and LTTE on objectives of the project
